Jewish Community of Chernigov Escaped Ukrainian crisis with Purim in Israel
For the Jews in Chernigov, Ukraine, Purim provided a chance to escape
from the war, tension, and economic troubles. For a night, they were
transported to Israel, at an elegant Purim party arranged by the
shluchim Rabbi Yisroel and Aliza Silberstein. The crowd really got
into the theme, wearing authentic costumes and headgear,, taking
pictures by the kosel, and dancing away to israeli and jewish music
The gourmet food was prepared by a top Ukrainian chef. The event
featured a performance by Vechaslav Bereznik, an up-and-coming music
superstar, who really got the crowd on their feet. The Megillah was
read by Yossi Cohen, who came especially from Kfar Chabad, imbuing the
event with a real Israeli energy.
For hours, the Jews lingered on, soaking in more of the atmosphere,
more Israel and more Purim, to take them through the year.
